When I want to compile my program I get the error The compiler's setup (GNU ARM GCC Compiler) is invalid, so Code::Blocks cannot find/run the compiler. Probably the toolchain path within the compiler options is not setup correctly?! What can I do?
When I want to debug my program I get a message like Starting debugger: C:\emIDE\arm\bin\arm-none-eabi-gdb.exe -nx -fullname -quiet -args C:/emIDE/arm/Example/Vendor/ATMEL_Blinky_AT91SAM7S64-EK/output/Release/exe/Blinky_AT91SAM7S64.elf failed What can I do?
When I want to debug my program the GDB server does not start and the debug view closes after a while. What can I do?

What is emIDE?

emIDE is an IDE (Integrated Development Environment) for the development of embedded applications.

What does the emIDE package contain?

In the package is the IDE, the toolchain with the compiler and debugger and some sample programs.

What are the features of emIDE?

emIDE is freeware.
-complete IDE
-editor with syntax highlighting, code completion, ...
-compiler and debugger integration
-compile and debug embedded programs
-as easy to use as possible. (e.g. the debugger options)
-possibility to directly debug on the target (With a JLink and the GDB server)

How do I install the emIDE package?

emIDE is fully portable. This means you just have to unzip the emIDE package to a destination of your choice.
If you move it after the first run please make sure you run the JLink-plugin configuration from the JLink menu.

What else do I need for emIDE?

Basically nothing.
If you want to debug your application from within emIDE you need to install the JLink software from SEGGER's Download page

How do I create my own project?
Take a look here: How can I create a clean new project?

What will be the size of my application?

Look at this table for a list of some samples:

Code: Select all

Application                         Program size

ATMEL AT91SAM7S64 blinky project    416 bytes
ARM7 Start project                  196 bytes
STM32 blinky project                2256 bytes
CortexM start project               2056 bytes

On which plattforms does emIDE run?

At the moment emIDE runs on Windows (XP and greater) only.
A Linux and Mac version is planned for some time in the future.
Since the code is based on Code::Blocks and wxWidgets, it is mostly easily portable to Mac and Linux Systems.

Which target processors are supported?

emIDE supports ARM and Renesas RX devices.

Troubleshooting:

When I want to compile my program I get the error The compiler's setup (GNU ARM GCC Compiler) is invalid, so Code::Blocks cannot find/run the compiler. Probably the toolchain path within the compiler options is not setup correctly?! What can I do?

The toolchain path seems not to be right. Maybe you moved the emIDE folder.
Run the JLink-plugin configuration from the JLink menu.
If this won't help, download the emIDE package again.

The debugger path seems not to be right. Maybe you moved the emIDE folder.
Run the JLink-plugin configuration from the JLink menu.
If this won't help, download the emIDE package again.

When I want to debug my program the GDB server does not start and the debug view closes after a while. What can I do?

Did you install the JLink software? Without it, it is not possible to debug.
If yes, run the JLink-plugin configuration from the JLink menu.
